WEIGHT & PLACEMENT
Plinth is designed to sit confidently in outdoor spaces without groundworks or permanent fixing. Each object is engineered as a complete, above-ground system, allowing it to be positioned, enjoyed, and relocated without disruption to existing surfaces.
This page outlines surface requirements, weight considerations, and placement guidance to ensure long-term performance and stability.
PLACEMENT PHILOSOPHY
Above-ground by design
Plinth is not installed in the traditional sense. There is no digging, no foundations, and no permanent fixing. Each unit arrives fully assembled and is placed directly onto a suitable surface.
Once positioned, Plinth is filled with water, connected to power, and allowed to run.
Nothing is hidden underground. Nothing is permanently altered.
SUITABLE SURFACES
Plinth is a permanent outdoor object and should be treated as such when considering placement.
Weights listed below include:
- The Plinth unit
- Integrated filtration system
- Fountain component
- Water at the normal operating level
Note: Final weights may vary slightly depending on configuration and water level.
DECKING GUIDANCE
Plinth can be placed on decking only if the structure is reinforced and load-bearing.
The combined weight of the unit and water is significant, and standard residential decking may not be sufficient without reinforcement.
We recommend:
- Structural joists beneath the placement area
- Load is distributed across multiple joists
- Confirmation from a builder or structural professional if in doubt
Plinth should never be placed on floating, unsupported, or cosmetic decking.
Approximate weights by size
FILLED, IN USE
- Linear 120 — approx. 350 kg
- Linear 180 — approx. 650 kg
- Linear 240 — approx. 900 kg
POSITIONING & CLEARANCE
Plinth should be positioned with enough clearance to allow:
- Comfortable viewing from all sides
- Easy access for occasional maintenance
- Free airflow around the object
We recommend leaving a small perimeter gap between Plinth and surrounding walls, planting, or structures.
Plinth is designed to be viewed as an object, not hidden or built in.
MOVING & REPOSITIONING
Once filled, Plinth should not be moved.
If repositioning is required, the unit must be drained before being lifted or relocated. Due to weight, moving Plinth should always be carried out by multiple people or professional handlers.
FINAL NOTE
Plinth is engineered to sit calmly and permanently in its environment. Correct placement ensures:
- Structural safety
- Long-term performance
- Visual balance
- Minimal maintenance
